None! It's farmland and oil wells!

it's the home town of some famous country singers like buck owens and Bill Woods, Tommy Collins, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and Wynn Stewart developed a streamlined country music style called the Bakersfield sound, which emphasized pedal steel guitar, the Fender Telecaster electric guitar and intense vocals. Bakersfield country was considered a spinoff of the honky-tonk style of country music that emerged from Texas, appropriate since many musicians there hailed from either Texas or surrounding states. Today, Bakersfield is third only to Nashville, Tennessee and Texas in country music fame, and Bakersfield continues to produce famous country music artists.[citation needed] the late Buck Owens' Crystal Palace is still one of the most respected concert venues, regularly showing off new recording artists as well as established country music stars. Buddy Alan (Buck's eldest son) performs with The Buckaroos (Doyle Curtsinger, Jim Shaw, Terry Christoffersen and David Wulfekuehler) regularly. I applaud your goal. Santa Monica area is about the closest, but traffic and driving time could make a big difference. Oxnard/Ventura area, perhaps. You are talking about a minimum of about 2 hours travel each way. More bang for the buck if you did a local clean up - vacant lots, graffiti removal as has been suggested. Something that you might look into is clean up of a section of a local stream, creek or river - what gets dumped into small creeks and rivers is unbelievable. It would be something that your club could take a great deal of pride in, and that kind of a project could get some support from other local civic or conservation groups. Could even get local news coverage. Good luck.

OMG, answer the question, people! OK, just so you know, you're going to have to drive a LONG ways to get to any beach. And, just as an editorial, Bakersfield is probably the last place I'd spend any time during the summer, except maybe to get gas and some fast food, and keep going. Anyways, the nearest beach is about 140 miles away, whether you go to Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, or Pismo. I would recommend Carpinteria State Beach ("World's Safest"), or Pismo Beach. The main problem is that there is a mountain range between Bakersfield and the coast, and you will have to drive through the mountains whichever route you take. Good luck!
3 :
Bakersfield is nowhere near the beach. Closest is about 3 hours in Pismo Beach (that's where all the Bakos go.)
4 :
I'm sorry but Bakersfield is about a few hour away from the nearest beach. If your looking for a nice beach close to there I suggest Cambria or San Simeon, both of which are safe and nice. Have Fun

For starters, you should pose the question in your home state of California where your hotel is located.
2 :
why would anyone stay in your hotel? you have people staying there, now, so i assume you know why those people chose your hotel. if there is a common reason among many of your current guests then you have a place to start. who else stays at hotels in your area and why? you need to identify ALL of your potential customers and then you can target them. i looked on the map and and saw something on wikipedia about your city and was surprised at the size. you have a pretty big sized area so if your hotel is nice enough family and friends hosting events in town could recommend you for their visitors. maybe try to partner up with local restaurants, barbershops, stores, organizations, so you can refer business to each other and post flyers and hand out cards, etc. are there local businesses nearby who fly in corporate guests? perhaps if there was a big road race or 1/2 marathon or marathon in bakersfield you could sponsor it so they could mention on all race materials that your hotel is near the start line and has discount for racers. any events you know about? athletic events? festivals? concerts? college/university graduations-events? could you hosts an event in your hotel ballroom like amateur boxing tournament? what i'm basically saying is strengthen your ties to the community so you know what's going on. sponsor one of the town's little league teams, join a local business association, try to improve on yourself as a person and think about being part of something bigger than yourself and making your world a better place even if you don't directly benefit from it. one good feature that area seems to have is that you could theoretically attract people from the bay area to the north or LA to the south to an evening event in the area and people may not want to drive home late at night... are you near I-5? people on the highway looking for a hotel will probably look on their smartphones or nav system or onstar so make sure your info is in the right databases. maybe AAA and other organizations could list you. find a way to attract highway traffic.

Traffic to Bakersfield?
Will there be a lot of traffic on the way to Bakersfield CA from Hemet CA? Taking the 60W to the 57N. Will be traveling early morning around 6:00 am. Is there a better time to travel? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!! <3 <3 10 POINTS TO BEST ANSWER!!!

The earlier, the better. I don't know what day of the week you are going, but unless it's the weekend, 6:00am is too late. You need to be pulling onto I-5, about 6:00am, then you can watch all the traffic on the other side of the highway. Always a good feeling. You picked the best route, if you need to go through the L.A. area, 60> 57> 210> 5> 99. If you are really worried about the traffic, you could go up through the Cajon Pass and take the scenic route - 10> 215> 138> 14> 58. Both routes are 216 mi. and the scenic route takes about a half an hour longer, driving time. Whatever you decide, have a safe trip.

Currently, there appear to be no issues. According to CAL Fire: State highways, county and local roads are closed throughout California due to wildfire activities. I am looking for a corporate sponsor for my girls softball team where can I find one?
BAKERSFIELD BABES 12 & UNDER 4001 Rio Del Norte Street, Bakersfield, Ca. 93308 Dear Prospective Sponsor, Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to read this letter. Our organization is called The Bakersfield Babes. We are a non-profit Fastpitch Softball organization located in Bakersfield, California. Our organization is a traveling club that consists of girls that are of the ages of 12 and younger who are committed to developing their softball skills while representing our community at different tournaments throughout the state of California, while promoting integrity, fair play, and competition. Our Coaches are dedicated in helping each and every player improve their skills for future play. As we travel to other communities within the state our expenses expand every year. To help offset these expenses, we have fundraisers such as car washes and candy sales. Often enough, the funds raised do not cover every expense such as, hotel rooms, snacks and meals for our players. That’s why we are asking for your help. We are asking you to let our team represent your company during our travels and tournaments. This representation can be with banners, logo’s, flyers, or even your product. Monetary donations are greatly appreciated and are also Tax Deductible. Once again, we thank you for your assistance and our team would be very appreciative if you decided to sponsor them. On behalf of all of our players I thank you. Sincerely, C. White Pitching Coach (661) 378-6223 (661) 391-9366  Please make checks payable to The Bakersfield Babes 12& under team TAX ID# 01-0615124

Try a local community bank, real estate office, auto dealership, factory, or other very visible community business. We did this for a charity event. The sponsor(s) will want to see their name plastered on everything.Ask if they have a banner or something that you can display during games.Do not display anything for free. Get a corporate logo on pdf file & make sure all newsletters, forms, correspondence, etc. you send has their logo on it. Good luck.Big box stores(Lowe's,Walmart, some grocery stores can often help out w/ small amounts, $100.00 or so, and will often donate gift cards. Have you thought about a raffle?

They are 12-years-old. Have you considered just taking them to the park and letting them have some fun? Try Chico's Bail Bonds.

Well if you're going to Vegas, you may want to try driving down to Laughlin too, it's not as crowded and cheaper! Sequoia/king's Canyon and Yosemite are AWESOME right now, there aren't many tourists, you may even want to drive down highway 395 on the eastern side of the state, people usually drive through the San Joaquin valley to get anywhere, well you're in Bakersfield so you would know. Catalina is nice, but if you're going to be in the LA area I suggest going to the Getty Center, it's free anyways and the views are great! it's close to LAX too! Another secret ss Death Valley, since you're going that direction you may want to take a trip there, it's incredible and if she's a nature lover she'll love it!! Temecula wine country is also cool since you're going to Palm Springs, you may want to take advantage of the casinos out there like Morongo, Aguacaliente, Pala Casino, etc

Wow! You ask an innocent question, and you get a SCAM e-mail offer from Nigeria. I-5 would be much easier on your RV. It has fewer sharp turns or steep grades. Remember when you get in the Central Valley of California to CLOSE your windows when you pass Harris Ranch (Coalinga). The smell of cow poop is overwhelming. Good luck on your trip.

Yes. As of 2007 if you are a US citizen it is required by law to have a valid US Passport to enter both Mexico and Canada. Prior to 2007 it was only required that you have a valid US drivers license or ID.
2 :
You only need a passport if you want to come back. (Slightly kidding. The Mexican government requires you to have a passport because they want you to go back.)
3 :
You do NOT need a Passport. You can FLY, Walk or Sail to Canada, Mexico and 17 nations in the Caribbean without a Passport and need only a Green Card. Read the link that Charlie gave you and see that Lawful Permanent Residents are an exception to the passport requirement. You should have said you were not a Citizen but a Resident

Read the link that Charlie gave you and see that Lawful Permanent Residents are an exception to the passport requirement. You should have said you were not a Citizen but a Resident

You are required by Mexican law to have a valid passport from your home country. Certain countries require you to have a valid Visa for their country; depending on your home country's relationship with theirs. Visit the Lonely Planet website or the Mexican state website for more information: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/mexico/practical-information/visas http://embamex.sre.gob.mx/usa/

Aah...that makes a big difference. You may travel to and from Mexico with just your green card...that is all you need. see site below and read section on "U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents."

As Charlie told you Residents of the USA do NOT need Passports to Fly, Walk, or Sail to Mexico , Canada and 17 nations in the Caribbean Green Cards are all they need regardless of Nationality or country of birth. To anywhere else in the world you need both. Passports do not get you into the USA , Can you imagine if they could?.........you need proof of residency or a Visa and Passport for travel to anywhere other that the western hemisphere. All this was a result of the WHTI Green Cards have a fingerprint on them and fingerprints can`t lie! You will NOT be put on a plane destined for the USA the other hemisphere without a Passport and Green Card This link will take you to Air Travel
