I would go to Yosemite! Do some research on the Pacific Crest Trail... it runs from Mexico to Canada and runs the length of California.
2 :
Mill Creek Trail is located appr 45 minutes towards Lake Isabella. If you hike the complete trail it is 17 miles round trip with 4k feet of elevation gain. Mt. Pinos Recreation Area - west of Frazier Park. 45 minute drive to Frazier Park and appr 30-45 minutes to most trail heads. Wind Wolves Preserve(open weekends only to the public) - appr 30 minute drive south of Bakersfield. Carrizo Plains. Approximate 1.5 hour drive west from Rosedale Hgwy. Flowers are spectacular right now. If you want to learn more, check out our club yahoo sight. We do hikes every other weekend and often more scheduled in between including some more agreesive and difficult hikes by some of the more experienced members.

About If I were to travel from the NapaValley to Vegas, which would be my best route

If I were to travel from the NapaValley to Vegas, which would be my best route?
From highway 12, would it be better to take I 5 or 99 to vegas. Or would it be better to go to reno, then 95 which I know is very boring. We will probably stay overnight somewhere between bakersfield and barstow. Any suggestions would be most appreciated and worth 10 points for best answer.

What I can see from my Atlas, booth ways takes you the same or close to the same deistic. From Reno to Vegas is a lot of open land and desert. Then a gen all of Nevada is desert. If it was me, I would go to Reno then down to Amargosa then to Vegas.By the way of 95.You would enter Reno I 80 and leave Sparks by Highway 50 down to 95.It is that or travel to Las Angeles catch I 15 then up.That way seems longer. It maybe cheaper to fly and take a Taxi to get around or rent a car.

United Airlines flies from Bakersfield to LAX.

I'm thinking the roads should be opened soon. A great option fro making the trip to LAX from Bakersfield especially in bad weather is to take the Airport Bus Of Bakersfield operated by Coach America! They have frequent service for about $25 each way and the travel time is normally only about 2 & a half hours. Good Luck!

Between Chico CA and Bakersfield CA where would you go if you had two free days to explore California.?
My Girlfriend and I are traveling from Chico to Bakersfield to visit family and we will have two free days with nothing to do. We are going end of March. We were thinking visit Yosemite park but it may still be too snowy. We just went to Monterey a couple months back so thats out. Any suggestions for travel destinations in the central valley of California?

I'd side track into the bay area....it's beautiful. As is Yosemite, even at the end of winter. March will have the waterfalls full if the snow is melting, and seeing as how we've had an interesting winter it is hard to tell. The only down fall is that in Yosemite at that time of year, some of the attractions are closed. Personally, I love San Francisco, Sausalito, Alcatraz, the golden gate bridge....and all of that can be explored in two full days. Good luck!
2 :
They plow the roads in Yosemite, so it is definitely worth a visit. Sequoia national park is also great. On the coast, Montana de Oro state park is very beautiful. The drive from Monterey to San Luis Obispo on the coast highway through Big Sur is very beautiful.
3 :
Actually, I think that - this year, especially - you'd be okay in Yosemite at the end of March since we've had so little rain and snow so far. Unless we have some pretty big storms between now and then, it might not be very snowy. But even if it is, Yosemite is beautiful under a blanket of snow and the Valley Floor facilities are usually open all year, so that's still a possibility for you. There's more information about Yosemite here: http://www.discovernortherncalifornia.com/yosemite-national-park.html My other suggestion is to play at being 49ers. Stop off in Sacramento and visit Old Sacramento (it's easy to imagine yourself back in 1849 since this is very much as it would have looked then); then visit Sutter's Fort (they have it set up very well with a self-guided tour around the fort). From Sacramento you could take your choice of: (1) Follow the Sacramento River in reverse of the route the 49ers would have taken from San Francisco, then do the Barbary Coast Trail and/or the Gold Rush Trail in San Francisco (see http://www.discovernortherncalifornia.com/gold-rush-trail.html for more information); or (2) Head up to Coloma, visit Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park (http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=484 ), then follow Highway 49 (which is the Gold Rush Trail) south as far as you want to (I would suggest at least to Jamestown) before cutting back over to I-5 at either Modesto or Merced. It's a lovely drive and there's lots of interest along the way! I hope this helps & that you have a great trip, whatever you decide to do!

About Travel from LA to Bakersfield, CA - what road conditions to expect right now (winter)

Travel from LA to Bakersfield, CA - what road conditions to expect right now (winter)?
I'll be travelling in the last week of January 2008 from LA to Bakersfield. I plan to take the 405, 5, then 99. What kind of road conditions should I be expecting? Ice/snow/fog? Would I need chains? I've never driven with chains before, wouldn't even know how to put them on... Would road conditions be better if I used the 14-N and 58-W instead? Thank you.

Sigalert.com does wonders
2 :
It isn't likely that you will need chains; snow is not common in that area. Rain and fog are possibilities, however; the California central valley is notorious for wintertime fog, which can sometimes lead to chain reaction crashes that trash dozens of vehicles. So be careful out there.
3 :
You may get some snow going over the grapevine (I-5), but you don't usually need chains. Call information for "Road Conditions" phone number. When you call the number follow the voice prompts, you will get the latest road and weather conditions. By the way, 14-N, 58-W has worse weather than I-5, Hwy-99.
4 :
no rain in the forecast, no snow over the grapevine.. even if there is snow, the chp will close the pass or pace the cars the fog has been bad here this week, if you need to drive I5 or 99, try to be here (bakersfield and going north) in the late morning or afternoon so that the fog will be thinner fog is worse north of us, bakersfield isn't that bad normally.. but when its bad here, its worse north of us (fresno, merced, visalia)

About how much gas would i need to travel to Jacksonville, Fl from Bakersfield

how much gas would i need to travel to Jacksonville, Fl from Bakersfield?
How much would i spend on gas from bakersfield to Jacksonville florida
Commuting - 10 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It all depends on what you drive and the price of gas within that area, well hope you have a safe road trip!
2 :
obviously it depends on what you drive. In a 4 cylinder compact, probably around $60-$75. In a V-8 large truck, about $200.
3 :
3 gallons
4 :
get on www.mapquest.com Put in your start and ending location. That should give you a rough estimate of the miles you need to travel. Then take the fuel mileage your vehicle gets, and divide the total number of miles you're going to travel (there and back) by the fuel mileage of your vehicle. That'll give you the total number of gallons that you'll use. Multiply that by the cost of fuel (around $3.20 a gallon) And wallaa.
5 :
Go to Mapquest.com or maps.google.com and put int he two addresses. Get driving directions and see how many miles it says. Add 10% to that number. Now determine how many miles per gallon your vehicle gets but if you don't know you can usually estimate 21 to 22 miles per gallon and be safe unless you have a pickup truck or SUV and then use 17 mpg. Divide the total miles by either the 22 or the 17 and you should have a pretty good estimate on how many. Unless you know for sure what you get and then don't take the high figure but reduce it by 3 mpg just to be safe and divide that into the total and remember that's a one way trip. Double it to get back.
6 :
You first need to calculate how many miles you get per gallon of gas then divide that number into how many miles you want to drive.
7 :
Bakersfield, CA to Jacksonville? That depends on a lot of things: Are you driving or flying? Will you need lodging along the way if you are driving? Can you pack food and drinks for the drive? Will you need lodging once you ge to Jacksonville? What route (if driving) will you be taking? I'm guessing probably strait out I-10 would be the best since it's the fastest. I live in Jacksonville and have traveled between California and Florida a few times by car. If you need any specific info for this area like gas prices, traffic, etc. just send me a message.
8 :
It depends on the fuel economy your vehicle gets, the costs of the fuel, how many stops you're making, etc...But a trip of that distance generally takes me $250 for gas...
9 :
The distances from Bakersfield, CA to Jacksonville, Fl is about 2622 miles. Now lets assume you get 30 mpg on your car. You take 2622/30 which comes out to 87.4. The average price of gas is $3.15 per gallon so take 87.4*3.15, giving you an estimated one way cost of $275.31. You should look into flying, it might be cheaper.
10 :
It doesn't really matter just drive as fast as you can out of Bakersfield and never look back :o)

22 days - 15 hours. Thanks to google maps. but beware, they also say "Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths." they might have you walking on freeways. Get a bicycle and it'll only take 6 days - 4 hours.

Might want to ask your coach(es), if they have local connections they will know.
2 :
Your local township recreation department can give you that information.
3 :
I assume you are looking for 18U or 17U. Check out eteamz or like sites to find the nearest club/travel teams. Even if you don't find one, you will be able to find somebody who does coach club ball, who in turn can give you info on closer teams. Legion Baseball would also be a good place to look, but they do not generally post teams until January. Try websites/organizations like League Lineup to provide leads.

I'd go for the easiest route as mentioned by travelmaster. The Airport Bus of Bakersfield operated by Coach America. They have several direct departures a day and the fare while a little pricy is well worth the saving in time.
4 :
There is a Bakersfield bus that runs from LAX directly to Bakersfield. When you arrive check with any Travelers Aid Booth. They are located close to the baggage claim area and have schedules. They run about every 3 hours or so.
